Bioregional cosmolocalism video series
I’ve done a series of short videos, and posted them on Youtube. The main idea is bioregional cosmolocalism, which is the overall systemic structure I think we should aim for. It’s a fairly direct development from the material economy I describe in the conclusion of my book but looking at it from the perspective of of what the world might look like in thirty years time (if we really go for it with positive societal transformation - clearly this is somewhat aspirational at the moment!).
I use the question ‘Why is the world in crisis, and what can we do about it?’ (from Rachel Donald’s podcast Planet Critical) as the initial framing, and the first few videos go into some general & conceptual background, particularly about using three timescales, short (this decade), medium (30 years) and long-term (deep future) as a good way to think about systems change. After this background I describe my ideas about bioregional cosmolocalism, including potential developments and problems we need to solve to actually do it.
Here’s a link to the series, which is about an hour long in total: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLIob3sukcwNSrXCJt9Mj5Mkbo3WyQV5K4
I’d love to hear what you think about it, and please spread the word far and wide if you like it!
And, although each of bioregionalism and cosmolocalism have been around for a few decades, I was surprised to discover that the search term “bioregional+cosmolocalism” was a googlewhack (search term with a single result on google) for my video when I first published it! Fingers crossed there will be thousands of results for it in a year’s time…
